Department of Environmental Engineering participate in the workshop for the calculation of the global high performance using multiple processors in Pakistan
Lecturer Dr Hatem Asal Gzar participated in the “International Workshop on High Performance Computing Using Multicore Processors” which held in Islam Abad in Pakistan for the period 6-8 of February 2012. The workshop sponsored by “OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), Islamabad.” The workshop concentrated on the following: The last decade has seen the emergence of power efficient multicore processors. The primary reason behind this sea change is to overcome the technology limitations in increasing clock speeds of uniprocessors. As a consequence, software developers are now responsible for multicore-enabling their applications by utilizing parallel computing techniques. This workshop introduced the Intel Cilk Plus technology that provides an easy-to-use and efficient approach towards multicore-enabling software applications. The Intel Cilk Plus software evolved out of the MIT Cilk project. The Intel Cilk Plus language is an extension of the C++ programming language. It provides simple constructs that help application programmers in parallelizing their software. The Cilk technology has recently been released as an open-source software as a part of the GNU’s GCC compiler.
Objectives of the Workshop are:
- Understand key concepts of multicore programming.
- Learn the Intel Cilk Plus technology and use it in software applications.
- Gain hands-on programming experience of using Intel Cilk Plus.
The workshop included theoretical and experimental training.
